Lattice Apple Bread

Ingredients
  • 1 pound whole wheat and honey bread dough
  • 1 quart (4 cups) jar of dehydrated or freeze-dried apple slices
  • 1 cup sucanat (unrefined brown sugar), divided
  • ½-1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 stick of butter, melted or ½ cup coconut oil, melted (keep warm)
  • Pinch of salt if using unsalted butter or coconut oil
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Place apples in a mixing bowl and pour warm butter or oil over top. Mix the cinnamon and sucanat. Sprinkle on ¾ cup of the sucanat/cinnamon and salt (if using). Toss to coat. Set aside.
  3. On an oiled surface, roll bread dough out to a rectangle of 9 x 12 inches
  4. Place apple mixture down the center of the dough lengthwise
  5. Cut equal tabs (slits) on both sides of the dough and criss-cross them over each other. Tuck in the ends and pinch them closed.
