ME On a Diet

Shalom Y’all!

Well, it’s time. Even eating healthy foods, one can become overweight. I have battled my weight for all of my life, mostly as a losing battle. In 2001, I lost 82 pounds on Weight Watchers and kept most of it off for a few years. However, when I was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia and started on lifesaving treatments, the last thing I was concerned about was my weight. And, as it happened, I am one of the few people who actually GAINED weight on chemotherapy. I ate to keep the nausea at bay and what I ate was white carbs because it was the only thing my system could handle.

I am now in remission, thank G-d, but my weight has crept back up to an unhealthy number and it’s time to give this thing to the L-rd and stop the madness! (Oh, hey, that sounds like a good slogan!)

Anyway, hubby Tim and I were watching PBS on Sunday and a small, vivacious and funny speaker came on touting a new book “YOU On A Diet.” It was so interesting and Tim and I were very challenged. The main point that grabbed us was regarding waist size in relation to predisposition to disease. We already exhibit many of these things, even though we eat a very healthy diet. The problem is that both hubby and myself inherited our body shape from our parents and we both have thin, athletic legs, but carry extra weight in our tummies. We are the ones that need to be at our healthy body weight more than most.

Soooooo, we decided to do this together! Taking what I’ve studied over the years about nutrition, adding what I’ve experienced first-hand with dieting all my life, plus helpful information from “YOU On a Diet”, and topping it all off with a new determination to exercise daily – we have our new way of living!!

Today is Day Two and WOW, it sure is great thus far! hahaha! Yes, I know it’s only been 2 days, but I can only do this one step at a time and with total dependence upon the L-rd Jesus for my strength. Tim is really happy to lose weight and in fact, he is happy eating what I cook for him. (Such a sweet man!)

Here is what Day One looked like:
